We are thrilled to announce that Barrington Pools has been selected to build the pool for the new Stingray Touch pool at Shedd Aquarium, scheduled to open this summer in Chicago.

Barrington Pools also built a similar tank for the Brookfield Zoo in 2007. The Stingray Touch pool will be approximately 1,500 square feet, holding 18,000 gallons of water and will allow guests to engage with the 40 cownose and yellow rays that it will house.

Located on the south side of the museum, in view of Soldier Field, the pool will be designed to balance the priorities of maximum visitor access to the rays with protecting their comfort and privacy. The design calls for a 2.5 foot depth at the edges so that guests can engage with the rays, but much deeper at the center so that the rays can have private areas to take a break from the attention.
